THE CHALLENGE
What began as a normal HVAC upgrade for this 1940s-era school turned into a more comprehensive solution when asbestos was discovered in the piping routed through the building’s tunnels. Even with the addition of abatement work, the project still needed to be completed during the eight-week summer break.
KED SOLUTION
We brought in an abatement contractor to address the asbestos issue, a process that took about three weeks before any additional work could begin. Once abatement was complete, we installed all new heating and cooling equipment, including boilers, pumps and piping. We also made significant upgrades to the school’s electrical infrastructure to accommodate the new system’s added load. All work was done during a shortened five-week timetable.
