Boosting Comfort & Safety on a District’s Campus

Delavan Schools CUSD 703 : Delavan, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

Equipment & System Upgrades | $700,000

THE CHALLENGE

This small district of nearly 500 students operates three schools—elementary, junior high and high school—on one campus. Built in 1963, 1955 and 1922, respectively, the buildings required various mechanical and electrical upgrades to improve comfort and safety for students and staff. The district’s goal was to complete all work during the summer when school was not in session.

KED SOLUTION

We upgraded the elementary school’s heating and ventilation system—which previously relied on radiant heat and open windows—with three new rooftop units providing forced-air distribution and dehumidification. We also replaced an aging hot water boiler with a new condensing high-efficiency boiler and installed a generator for emergency power. At the high school, we installed a new high-efficiency burner in the boiler and replaced the steam boiler providing heat to the adjacent shop building.
