Bringing New Levels of Cleanliness to a Hospital Pharmacy

St. Margaret’s Hospital : Spring Valley, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

830 square feet | $415,000

THE CHALLENGE
Upgrading this hospital’s pharmacy to meet stringent new cleanliness standards was made extra challenging by space limitations, prefabri-cated walls that required electrical coordination with the manufacturer, and a lack of electrical drawings accurately showing power distribution for critical equipment and life safety branches.

KED SOLUTION : Careful Coordination of Equipment & Engineering
To address cleanliness requirements, we installed a variable speed condensing unit that permitted year-round air conditioning, a HEPA-approved exhaust fan for the fume hood, a compact humidifier located in the janitor’s closet and flat, washable lenses in the lighting. All equipment met NFPA99 standards. We also rerouted plumbing out of the cleanroom suite ceiling, which was sealed for pressurization and control contamination, for easier access.
