Designing a New Testing Center for Heartland Community College

Heartland Community College : Normal, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

5,100 square feet | $1 million

THE CHALLENGE
As a part of a larger facility master plan, Heartland Community College needed to relocate their facility testing center. The school wanted to re-purpose the Workforce Development Center from its current use of technical trades training into the new center of student life and student services on campus. The testing center relocation posed challenging ductwork designs, due to tight construction spaces. The new testing center also had very specific design requirements in order to meet Pearson educational testing standards.

KED SOLUTION : Relocating for Building Usage Transition
We designed the space to accommodate all testing center needs, ensuring it would be approved by Pearson. BIM Revit software helped us mitigate the spatial constraints, through which we were able to fit all ductwork and HVAC equipment in the allotted space. As a result, the school now has a new, Pearson testing center in the desired location, with better temperature control and energy efficiency, thereby making progress toward the building’s overall transition.
