Designing Electrical Connections for a PV Solar Energy System

Woodruff Career and Technical Center : Peoria, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

262,169 square feet | $11.3 million

THE CHALLENGE
Woodruff Career and Technical Center received a grant to add a PV solar energy system to their building. However, in order for this addition to occur, the building would first require electrical infrastructure work to create connections for the PV system. We also had an ongoing HVAC project at the center, so the electrical work needed to be arranged around the existing project.

KED SOLUTION : Facilitating Multiple Projects
Our electrical engineers coordinated with our mechanical engineers to create an electrical schedule within the existing HVAC project schedule, allowing both the electrical and mechanical projects to be completed within the same timeframe. Incorporating the two projects helped saved on time and costs. We worked closely with the energy service provider to ensure our electrical infrastructure work would provide the necessary PV connections for the addition. As a result, Woodruff Career and Technical Center now has green energy production, completed in an expedited timeframe, that helps to reduce utility costs.
