Improving Water Temperatures & Air Quality for High-Rise Tenants

Springfield Housing Authority : Springfield, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

Building 1 : 89,000 square feet & Building 2 : 73,000 square feet | $311,000

THE CHALLENGE
Two of the housing authority’s high-rise apartment buildings needed major upgrades: Domestic water booster pumps and water heaters were failing in both the Hildebrandt and Bonansinga buildings, and tenants in Hildebrandt were also experiencing air quality issues and uncomfortable conditions in winter and summer due to an aging make-up air-handling unit.

KED SOLUTION : Energy-Efficient Water & Air Upgrades
We replaced the water booster pumps and heaters in both buildings with new, more energy-efficient products that should result in lower overall energy costs for the housing authority — as well as consistent hot and cold water for the tenants. We also installed a new air-handling system on Hildebrandt’s rooftop, coordinating with a structural engineer to ensure there was adequate support for the larger-capacity unit required to meet the building’s needs.
