THE CHALLENGE
Competitive “eSports” are taking off at universities across the country, and IWU wanted to get ahead of the curve with a program and facilities capable of attracting top-ranked athletes. Creating state-of-the-art training and competition rooms for sports gaming required converting two existing classrooms and offices, both tight spaces, in a short timeframe.
KED SOLUTION : Specialized HVAC & Lighting Solutions
The eSports program relies on multiple computers, which generate considerable heat. We modified air flows for comfort and added a new high-speed fiber connection for maximum bandwidth. We used lighting to differentiate between the competition room and a premier play “coliseum” and installed narrow distribution lights to highlight feature walls and eliminate glare for competitors. Launched in Fall 2018, IWU’s eSports program now ranks among the best in the nation.
