Modernizing Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Linear Accelerator

Sacred Heart Medical Center : Danville, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

915 square feet | $313,628

THE CHALLENGE
Sacred Heart Medical Center needed to replace their existing, aging Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine. One of the challenges associated with this Linear Accelerator replacement, was that new conduits had to be routed into the vault. Vaults are made of concrete that is several feet thick, ensuring protection of surrounding areas from radiation. With the replacement, OSF also requested that the new machine be the most advanced LINAC technology available.

KED SOLUTION : Upgrading Equipment and Technology
A Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator was chosen, ensuring advanced technological features for state-of-the-art care. We drilled new pathways into the vault for conduits to accommodate the new machine. The hospital also opted for an IDENTIFY system add-on, which provides easy access to patient information, treatment details, and visual positioning guides and set-up assistance. This new system helped speed up appointments and instill confidence in patients and staff. Sacred Heart Medical Center now has a modernized LINAC, complete with an upgraded system, for top notch treatment.
