Bradley University Geisert Hall : Peoria, Illinois
10,000 square feet | $1.4 million
Part of a campus-wide effort to make older residence halls more appealing to a new generation of students, the Geisert Hall project consisted of a complete upgrade to the 10-story building’s core, which houses each floor’s restroom facilities. Because of the size of the project, the work was phased over the course of two summers while students were off campus.
To bring modern air-handling to this 1970s-era residence hall, we designed a rooftop penthouse to hold a new 16,000 cfm make-up air unit that brings 100% outside air to the restrooms. The unit’s energy-recovery wheel transfers heat from the exhaust air stream to the outdoor air stream to improve overall efficiency. Also included in the project were a complete overhaul of the building’s central HVAC systems, all new plumbing and piping, lighting and power system upgrades, and replacement of all sprinklers in the center core.
