THE CHALLENGE
The community hospital’s antiquated boilers were unreliable and had reached the end of their life. Limited space in the boiler room made it challenging to install additional boilers, which was necessary to add boiler redundancy. Because boilers are the life-line of the hospital, providing steam to the surgical sterilization equipment and for heating the hospital, maintaining year-round boiler operation was critical.
KED SOLUTION : Phasing Boiler Replacement
Timing and phasing the replacement boilers during the summer months was essential to maintaining boiler operation. We replaced their four boilers with one high capacity boiler and added a second boiler providing redundancy. Our design optimized piping and equipment layout within the boiler room enabling us to use the space more efficiently which dramatically reduced maintenance costs.
