Retrofitting a School for Air Conditioning

Richwoods High School : Peoria, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

250,000 square feet | $6.9 Million

THE CHALLENGE

Peoria School District 150 set a goal to have air conditioning in all its schools by 2020. Richwoods High School, originally built in 1955, first needed to retrofit its HVAC system so air conditioning could be installed. The school also required updated lighting.

KED SOLUTION

We replaced the antiquated boiler and pump and installed an air handling unit and ventilators with a chilled water coil. In the natatorium, we replaced the pool air handling unit with a dehumidification unit and installed new LED lights. Existing piping received abatement treatment, making the school a safer learning environment.
