Upgrading a Hospital’s Linear Accelerator

UnityPoint Health Methodist : Peoria, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

1,400 square feet | $1.2 million

THE CHALLENGE
The hospital needed to replace their linear accelerator with a new, fully upgraded replacement. With the machine upgrade, came necessary adjustments to the existing space and systems for it become operational. Electrical and HVAC systems needed to be relocated due to the additional wall thickness and necessary hallway extension. Also, the fire protection system needed to be modified because of the equipment and room change as well.

KED SOLUTION : Making Specialized Modifications
This ground-breaking, high-dose, high-precision radiotherapy and radio surgery machine required us to make modifications to the specialized, pre-action fire protection system as a result of the room adjustments. We were able to relocate all electrical and HVAC systems, as well as streamline cooling materials, helping to save space. As a result, the hospital now has a brand-new, state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator, as well as a newly renovated room. The new machine helps to ensure the best possible treatment for patients, and the system designs help to ensure safety and functionality within the space.
