Expanding a Hospital Parking Structure

OSF St. Francis Medical Center : Peoria, Illinois

PROJECT SIZE & COST

351,590 square feet | $29 million

THE CHALLENGE
OSF needed to expand their parking deck to accommodate the new Cancer Institute. The parking deck needed a walkway connection to the hospital’s new cancer facility, requiring additional coordination with the facility’s engineering design team. Additionally, the existing plumbing and fire protection systems could not support the parking deck expansion. Also, electrically, the hospital’s existing parking deck is more complex than a traditional parking deck, as it involves hospital power systems such as emergency power, life-safety power, and equipment power systems.

KED SOLUTION : Designing Hospital Parking Deck Systems
We integrated the parking deck’s electrical systems into the existing power systems, organizing based on necessity, following hospital power codes. We brought in new plumbing and fire protection services to serve the new section of the parking deck. We coordinated closely with the cancer institute’s project engineers to ensure a seamless design for the walkway connection to the new facility. As a result, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center now has expanded parking capacity to better accommodate the new Cancer Institute patients, hospital patients, visitors, and staff.
